Making of: Throwing a Boomerang

This time I tried my hand at motion blurring, overlapping action, cutting to a new shot and compositing on backgrounds.

For inspiration I looked at Ohira Shinya's work.

For preparation I studied a world champion boomerang thrower:

The first pass of animation contains a handful of extremes to determine the timing:

For animating the boomerang I turned to the perspective principle from Richard Williams' book.

After I made the final pass I thought of leaving it as is, but decided to give it a bit more depth. I considered coloring the character with charcoal on paper, however I was hesitant of the mess it would give so I painted digitally using Krita:
