The Values of Sky

September 13, 2021

Two more charcoal studies of the local sky.

There are most always clouds morphing into all kinds of shapes outside my window. Now that autumn is slowly starting, the tones and volume start to become more textured and layered. I thought it would be nice to try and render these differing shapes and streams in the sky.

The foreground silhouettes of the buildings and roofs are made beforehand by taping them off and rigourously filling them with charcoal. After I applied some fixative, the tape gets removed and sharp edges remain.

The paper is 125 g/m medium grain.
