Four landscape studies using charcoal to capture value and tone.
Brushes, erasers and tissues were utilized to blur edges and apply highlights in certain areas. Still messing around with the order in which to apply the various layers of charcoal. It behaves very much like watercolour, where unpredictable things can happen.
I used reference photos for all of them; the first two (landscape) are based on pictures from John Sexton. The last two (portrait) are based on pictures from my iPhone.
For the paper I grabbed 125 g/m medium grain.
